Another Sunday in the Books...

As always, Sunday night brings about the sense of accomplishment and of work that still needs to be done. This weekend we mowed the lawn, trimmed some 'grasses/plants', did some house hunting, and watched a great movie. Here are some items I want to share:

1. Mom & Dad (& anyone else): We saw the movie 'Into the Wild' based on the bestseller of the same name by John Krakauer. Fantastic movie - intriguing story.

2. Andrew had another soccer game yesterday vs. the Rockets. Andrew's team, the Dragons have been virtually unstoppable for the first two games...not to mention Andrew has averaged approx. 3-4 goals a game. Well, the Rockets have been coached to actually play defense which means the Dragons were held scoreless. At one point Andrew just started walking off the field towards me crying - he was upset that the other team wouldn't let him score. Gotta love it!

3. Tonight, Andrew took 90 minutes to eat dinner...classic power struggle. You would think we were forcing castor oil down his throat...we had meatball sandwiches for dinner, go figure.

4. Congratulations to Julie & Jerry on the birth of Amanda Annalynn (hope I spelled that correctly). We welcome Amanda to the greater Greene family...little does that baby realize what she has been born into...and to think that she will never know David with his 'dreads'!

5. The house inspection is tomorrow...we are hoping for the best.

Until next time...

It's about time...

It is Saturday morning and I find myself on the couch watching 'Bunny Town' (yes, a show with a bunch of singing, fuzzy bunny puppets getting into all sorts of trouble) with my kids. Jill is working at Immanuel this morning. Andrew has a soccer game this afternoon, although has a pretty bad cough. We are responsible for bringing treats today...so clearly we CANNOT miss the game! We recently got Alvin & the Chipmunks from Netflix...so hopefully I can pull the kids away from it this afternoon!

School is going just fine...currently covering the Civil War in American History and Mesoamerica (Aztecs, Maya, and Inca) in World History. We only have about 5 weeks left in school for the year...bring on summer.

It seems as though we have sold this house...waiting for the inspection on Tuesday - but regardless we should be a go. We have looked at about 6 houses so far and found 1 that we are still interested in...several more we still want to walk through. I equate second and third time home buying to 40-year-olds dating...it doesn't take too long to realize if it is a good fit or if it doesn't work for you.

Another note of interest at this point in time is that I have sent in an application to Nebraska Wesleyan University and the Master of Arts in Historical Studies program. I guess it is time for me to start moving forward in my professional life. I will take two classes this summer - should be interesting. I am taking the classes with a colleague of mine which will make it much more interesting.

Alright, off to attend to my kids for the weekend.

Until next time...

No time to sleep!

My apologies for not updating the 'Notes' blog recently. Teaching high school, being a father of 2, and sleeping are apparently 3 things that are not 'congruent' at times. I have been extremely busy with little time to 'play'. Very brief update:

1. I am the champion! Actually, Kansas won the Nat'l Championship, but I won the Swanson/Paschall/Salter Tourney challenge. Okay, for the sake of being truthful, Jill actually beat me, but she entered her picks incorrectly on the computer - so technology has me victorious. Works for me.

2. Currently teaching the Civil War in American History I (10th graders) via a major iMovie project for my students. We just finished studying the Renaissance & Reformation in World History (9th Graders) and will embark a brief venture into the Americas and touch up on the Incas, Mayans, and Aztecs. It is a little out of order, but that is what you get the first time you teach a unit.

3. Still trying to sell this house so we can move further west for our commute...we, however, may be here a while.

4. Taxes are nearly complete...a little extra time to spare this year - what is happening to me?

5. Andrew and his 'Dragon' teammates played again last Saturday. Andrew looked good...and it isn't just me saying this...I am hearing this from his 'coach' and another parent. Obviously I took this info in a very modest and non-braggadocious way...if you know what I mean!

6. Grandma Greene is making steady progress and is at home! She is on Hospice care and getting treatment for pneumonia (I believe). Anyway - she is apparently one, tough, lady! Hope you are feeling even better Grandma...we love you and are still praying for you!

Talk to you all soon! Until next time...
